I Will Not Buy GTA IV…Yet
May 2, 2008 – 7:00 pm
In one of my previous posts, “Avoiding Financial Setbacks #3: Splurges”, I said even though I seriously lowered my video game purchases I will still be getting GTA IV and Ninja Gaiden 2 on their release dates. Though I absolutely love the GTA (Grand Theft Auto) series, I’ve decided to hold off and wait. Here’s why:
ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH GAMES - I’ve been anxiously waiting for GTA for over a year now, but lately I find myself becoming less attractive to video game purchases. I have a couple of games that I play on the regular and has been doing very well with entertaining my free time. As much as I want GTA IV, I don’t see a huge need for it at the moment. I’m not even bored with the games that I have had for over a year (excluding one or two games).
$60 GAME!!! - So if I’m still being entertained with the games I already have, why would I go out and purchase a new game for $60? $60 is only a minor dent to my finances, but if it’s something I can avoid, then why not just wait a couple of months. I’m almost certain in 3 months, I can get it for $10 bucks cheap used and most likely in 6 months, I can get a $15 to $20 discount from price drops and a used purchase.
Now I can’t make any promises with Ninja Gaiden 2. I already have it on pre-order and I’m still waiting for the release date. Some may call me crazy, but I love this Ninja Gaiden series even more than GTA, so you will more than likely see me making a post on spending $60 on Ninja Gaiden 2 over GTA IV.

I keep telling my kids to wait a few months before buying games and DVD’s - because the prices drop significantly. But they don’t listen … just charge out and buy the ones they want the day they come out usually.
LOL, I know how your kids feel. I remember those days when I couldn’t wait the next day to get the hottest and newest game to hit the shelves. For example, the release of Halo 2, I was one of the millions of people around the world standing outside of GameStop late at night waiting for them to open the doors at midnight so people could pick up their pre-orders. (hehe) those were some good days, but I’m glad they’re gone.
