May 2008 Goals Of The Month

May 1, 2008 – 11:00 am

I had a pretty good month! We’ve achieved some goals and turned the other cheek on some other goals last month. This month, I don’t have many goals other than save, save, save. So here’s an overview of some of the goals I want to achieve this month along with some explanations behind them.

April 2008 Goals Of The Month

  • (Personal) Purchase shares of WIT – PURCHASED SHARES OF FMD INSTEAD. First off, I missed the bottom for WIT this stock. It’s a great company but was getting beaten up by the economy and the Indian rupee was rising. It’s getting back on course and has risen almost $3/share from my original buy price. So I had to pick another beaten up stock and what other company is more beaten up than FMD? Some people may jump down my throat on this one but I did my research very thoroughly on this company. There’s a chance the company can go bankrupt (just as any other company in the stock market), but I feel there’s a better chance for the company to have a turnaround first. At least an attempted turnaround. This is not the type of company to go down without fighting. Hopefully, I’m right. Let’s see what happens.
  • (Personal) $300 to Emergency Fund to total at $1,000 - ACCOMPLISHED – I rebuilt my Emergency Fund to my 2007 goal. I can now concentrate on achieving the 2008 goal.
  • (Personal) Increase month contribution to permanent portfolio to $200/month – ACCOMPLISHED – More money is now going into the Dow Low 5 and it’s going into these companies while the prices are being heavily beaten up. Be sure to look at my past articles as I explain The Purpose Of My Permanent Portfolio.
  • (Personal) Consider getting rid of cable, stick with DSL? - WILL KEEP CABLE IN THE MEANTIME – I will save a few dollars a month by switching and though I’m not an avid TV watcher (I’m so busy doing other things), I think I may have gotten spoiled to cable. In my defense, I only have the basic channels. No HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, or PPV. That accounts for something, right?
  • (Business) Join PFBlogs.org. One year-subscription – WILL WAIT ANOTHER MONTH TO DEDICATE MORE CASH TOWARDS BUSINESS – I became a featured member of PFBlogs.org last month and I would like to get into a one year subscription rather than a monthly basis. There were a few other investments that needed to be made towards the business this month so I stuck with the monthly plan for one more month.
  • (Business) Contest Prize: Purchase New Jason Kelly Book – PRIZE IS BEING SUPPLIED BY AUTHOR – At first, this was going to be an out-of-pocket expense. I don’t mind buying if I know that the contest prize will benefit the lucky winner, but I was very pleased to announce that the author will be providing the contest prize. Now I get to save my cash, have a good contest, and allow Jason Kelly to present the prize himself. If you haven’t participated in the contest. It’s not too late.

May 2008 Goals Of The Month

  • (Personal) $300 to Emergency Fund to edge close to annual goal of $2,000 – Now that I’ve rebuilt my Emergency Fund, I can start focusing on achieving my annual goal of $2,000. Actually, I strongly feel that I will be able to tackle this quick so don’t be surprised if you see me increase this goal to $3,000.
  • (Personal) Use upcoming stimulus rebate to pay off more debt. - I’m not going to go out and buy shoes, clothes, electronics, or games (Even though GTA IV looks VERY ATTRACTIVE to me right now). I’m going to be using this money to pay off more debt so I can jump for joy when I present new numbers to you guys at the end of the quarter.
  • Decrease electric bill – I’m always on the computer or playing video games and when I sleep I like for the place to be cool. There have been few instances when I leave for work, school, etc. I will leave these appliances on as the continue to run up my electricity bill. Now my bill isn’t a lot and no where near where I would complain, but I know it can be lowered from the average monthly amount. I’ll be doing what I can to lower that bill this month.
  • (Business) Purchase microphone – If you’ve been looking at my videos, I tell you how I want a new microphone to get rid of the nerve wrecking background noise heard in some of my videos. I’m going to try to keep that goal this month.
  • (Business) Purchase items for a new video set – This isn’t an actual set goal as of yet, but I’m still contemplating if I should change the scene of the videos. I know look at me in front of a white background (my wall) may seem exciting for some people, but I know it may be boring. So let’s wait and see if I follow through with this one. You’ll notice the new differences in new videos.

So there’s my plan for the month. Continue visiting the site and I’ll keep you up-to-date with the progress. Plus I’ll have a video that will cover the new numbers for May. At the end of the month, I’ll do another overview and give you the updates on how far I’ve gotten. Wish me luck!
