Why I donate blood?
April 9, 2008 – 7:00 amRecently, I was asked by the American Red Cross to submit my story as to why I give blood. Here’s my answer:
My answer is simple. “I just wanted to give.†I always wanted to donate something to help others, whether it may for a church or another non-profit organization, but there was a time in my life to where my finances never looked in my favor to where I could give and not worry about denting my wallet. For years, I tried to search for an answer, but could never find a worthy solution to where I could benefit others without putting myself at risk.
It was in January of 2007 when I was hired onto my place of employment, when I received an announcement that one of your blood vans would be visiting our location to take donors. That’s when I realized that this was the donation that I could give to. Since then, I have given blood each quarter, and I expect to continue.
I just want to give. I’m not looking to be viewed as a saint. I just want others to benefit from what I am able to provide. Not everyone in this country, or even this world, is as blessed as I am, and I am always ecstatic to be able to give when I can.
Since giving blood, I have been able to finally participate in a new charity with the United Way Campaign and am also looking into selling plasma. I want to continue to do my part to make the world a better place.
