Blessings In Disguise
March 28, 2008 – 7:00 amSometimes it’s amazing the things we define as hardships and troubles. Some people may have the worse the troubles, but it could never amount to some of the troubles that the entire world is facing.
The war in Iraq, economic situations in the Middle East, children with no food, water, or clothes. One particular story that has seriously inspired me was the story of a little Indian girl by the name of, Lakshimi Tatma.

For those that are not familiar with this little girl, she was born with her deceased twin attached to her. For the first few years of her life, she was considered to be born an eight-limb human being with four arms and four legs; without the ability to walk or care for herself. In this country, we look at this as a birth deformation. My first impression when I saw the YouTube video was why did this have to happen to such a pretty little girl? Well, impressions can change when you look at things through the eyes of others.
Tatma’s birth was looked at as a blessing. She resembled the Indian goddess of Vishnu. I was amazed at the comparison myself, but it makes me consider the outlook of how we take our problems. Maybe some of our own obstacles we face are blessings in disguise. Maybe the tests that we are put up against are designed to help us rather than hurt us. Maybe, just maybe, things aren’t always as bad as they seem.

There’s more good news of Lakshimi Tatma. With the approval of their parents, the doctors in India wanted to surgically remove the deceased twin from the little girl’s body. As you may can tell the parents were skeptical, after all their daughter represents a goddess. After some persuasion of the possibility that their daughter may not survive in the long-term which would make the operation even more difficult, the parents agreed and Lakshimi underwent a 40-hour successful surgery. I haven’t found any pictures of the little girl conscious and moving, but they did show a very short clip of the little girl lying in the hospital bed.

Use Lakshimi Tatma as your example, because just maybe the hardships you are facing are blessings waiting to reward you.
